About Tree of Life Lactation
Caring for Mothers Is More Than My Profession—It's My Calling.
Hi, I'm LJ Merritt.
I'm a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), and most importantly, a mother who understands that feeding a baby is about so much more than ounces, schedules, and techniques.
It's about confidence.
Connection.
Peace of mind.
Those first days and weeks with a new baby are beautiful—but they can also feel overwhelming. Questions can come quickly, and the amount of conflicting advice available online often leaves parents feeling more anxious than reassured.
My goal is to be a trusted guide during that season.
Whether you're preparing to breastfeed before your baby arrives, navigating painful feedings, struggling with latch, pumping, milk supply concerns, or simply wondering if everything is going as it should, I'm here to walk alongside you with compassionate, evidence-based support.
My Journey
My passion for caring for mothers and babies began long before Tree of Life Lactation was ever created.
As a nurse, I've had the privilege of caring for women, infants, and children in a variety of healthcare settings. Throughout those experiences, I saw firsthand how much a family's feeding journey can influence not only a baby's health, but a mother's confidence and emotional well-being.
That passion became even more personal through my own experiences as a breastfeeding mother.
Like so many women, I learned that every baby is different, every breastfeeding journey is unique, and even experienced mothers sometimes need reassurance, encouragement, and support.
Those experiences inspired me to pursue advanced lactation education so I could serve other families during one of the most meaningful transitions of their lives.
Tree of Life Lactation was created from that calling.
Why "Tree of Life"?The Tree of Life has always represented something deeply meaningful to me.
It symbolizes life, nourishment, strength, growth, and hope.
Those same qualities are at the heart of motherhood.
Some seasons feel deeply rooted and full of confidence.
Others feel uncertain and fragile.
My desire is that every family who comes to Tree of Life Lactation feels supported, encouraged, and equipped to grow in confidence as they care for their baby.
My Christian faith shapes the way I care for families—with compassion, humility, patience, and grace.
While my faith is an important part of who I am, every family is welcomed with kindness, respect, and evidence-based care regardless of background or beliefs.
"She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her..."
Proverbs 3:18
My Approach
I believe every family deserves care that is:
Personalized
No two babies—or parents—are exactly alike. Your care should reflect your unique goals and circumstances.
Evidence-Based
You'll receive practical guidance grounded in current lactation education and best practices.
Compassionate
Questions are always welcome. There is no judgment here—only support.
Collaborative
My role isn't to tell you how your feeding journey should look. It's to help you understand your options, build confidence, and make informed decisions that are right for your family.
I'm Honored You're Here.
Choosing someone to walk alongside you during your feeding journey is personal.
Thank you for considering Tree of Life Lactation.
Whether you need reassurance, practical solutions, or someone to help you make sense of what you're experiencing, I'd be honored to support you.
Let's help you feed your baby with confidence.
